SAY IT! Media Literacy Program

PowerPlay NYC

Working in the K-12 sector has also been central to my career. As the Assistant Director of Say It, a media literacy program serving public schools in New York City, I spent several years teaching media literacy skills to students in grades 4-12. Experiencing the value of differentiated instruction not only set the trajectory for my career in education, but also seeded a passion for creative problem solving within a range of educational environments. At Girls for Gender Equity and PowerPlay NYC I ran a series of health workshops, basketball leagues, a teen mentorship program, and after school programs, all of which required me to be in and out of schools in every borough of New York. This gave me the opportunity to learn how schools work from the inside--I negotiated contracts with principals, led workshops with students, and everything in between.
