Professional Education @ NYU Tandon
Director of Professional Education and Opportunity Programs
Tandon’s Professional Education programs bridge the gap between academia and industry to provide targeted learning experiences that address skills gaps, emerging technologies, and new opportunities across engineering and technology fields.
Based on the success of the educational programming that I developed a the RLab, NYU Tandon brought on our team to expand this model to create a more comprehensive portfolio of programs and content that was aligned more closely with the areas of focus and research of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. The result was the creation of the Professional Education Department located at Tandon @ the Yard. Created in collaboration with faculty and industry experts, Tandon’s professional programming includes short courses and technical intensives, certificate and executive education programs as well as curated events for professional development and networking.
Technical Intensives
Engineers must continually develop their interdisciplinary practices to innovate and advance in their respective fields. We developed these programs to support this movement by connecting industry experts, faculty and working professionals in a learning environment dedicated to career development and innovation. With programming geared to emerging opportunities and needs in the field, the technical intensives were designed to be short sprints of hands on learning to help professionals in the field continue to be able to learn new skills and new technologies. The Virtual Production Series was our my most popular series of courses, training hundreds of people from around the World.
Custom Programs
In collaboration with HR and business leaders, I designed and develop an Organizational Needs Assessment for NYU Tandon which allowed us to tailor learning programs to address skill gaps and talent needs within organizations. Based on initial conversations with our clients and agreed upon learning objectives and goals, we would construct a comprehensive that addresses all relevant learners and overall goals. Programs would range from creating one course for the organization or a comprehensive program of activities.
Participants from our MTA Operational Technology Security Program were highlighted and recognized by the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, during the announcement of a new Statewide Cybersecurity Policy.
Executive Education
With support and in collaboration with Emeritus, we created two nine month long Senior Executive Programs. These programs were designed for people who have just stepped into executive leadership or rising technology executives looking to advance to the C-suite. Designing and launching these programs with our faculty partners, industry experts, and course design teams was an incredibly rewarding experience.
Community Events
In support of Lifelong Learning we thought it was imperative to create an inclusive community for engineers in NYC where people could come together both physically and digitally. This initiative focused on hosting live in person events at Tandon @ the Yard where we had a series of LEGO themed events that showcased different technologies and applications. We also implemented an online community on Hivebrite where individuals who wanted to stay connected could network with each other, learn about job opportunities, and stay up on all things enginnering and NYU.
